Choreographer and movement teacher Kele Baker has been choreographing Argentine tangos for BBC1's hit show Strictly Come Dancing since the dance was introduced to the programme in 2006. Since then, Kele and her collaborators (Ralf Schiller, Los Ocampo, Giraldo Escobar, Andrew Cuerden and Peter Baldock) have staged over 20 tangos for the show - the include Caroline Flack & Pasha Kovalev, Kara Tointon & Artem Chigvintsev, and Mark Ramprakash & Karen Hardy.

Kele has also choreographed and staged dances for numerous television and theatrical productions, including Darren Boyd’s Little Cracker (Sky1), Steven Poliakoff's Joe’s Palace (BBC), Deborah Bull’s Travels With My Tutu and The Dancer’s Body (BBC), Latin Fever (Sadlers Wells), Dance Seduction (Erotica, Kensington Olympia), and No Way Out (Southwark Playhouse). Kele has appeared as master teacher on programmes for BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Living TV, and is the co-author of Strictly Come Dancing: Step-By-Step Dance Class (BBC Books). Since 1998, Kele has organised Dance Al Fresco, an annual series of outdoor, charity ballroom, Latin and Argentine tango events held in London’s Regent’s Park and benefiting The Royal Parks Foundation. In 2015 Kele was honoured to be asked to judge the tango categories for the Latin UK Awards (LUKAS).

In Milton Keynes, Kele is proud to collaborate with up-and-coming theatre group Carabosse Theatre & Production Company. Having previously worked together on Open Theatre Group’s 2011 production of Macbeth, Carabosse artistic director Sally Luff invited Kele to consult on the movement for their recent, hugely successful adaptation and production of Mervyn Peake’s Gormenghast.

Along with dance, Kele is passionate about teaching the ancient therapeutic practice of chi gong - slow, flowing exercises that relax, rejuvenate and revitalise the body and mind, release tension, and improve immune, circulatory and digestive functions. Through the Life Force Chi Centre, Kele teaches chi gong workshops and classes in Milton Keynes, London, and St. Lucia.

Kele also teaches ballroom/Latin/tango and qigong at the multi-award-winning, five-star spa resort The BodyHoliday LeSPORT in St. Lucia. There she coordinates “Jive June”, a month of dance and dance-fitness classes, an exciting addition to the resort’s extensive offering of health, fitness and wellness activities.

Kele has extensive dance teaching experience. For over a decade, she was co-director of London’s elegant Kensington Dance Studio. She has also taught lessons, classes, courses and master classes for numerous schools, colleges and corporate clients, including LAMDA, London Studio Centre, London School of Musical Theatre, Oxford University Dancesport Society, Royal Shakespeare Company and BBC Worldwide.

Kele competed as an amateur and professional ballroom dancer in the USA, but her passion for teaching - helping students achieve, have fun and grow in confidence through the joy of dance - has led her to work with a diverse range of pupils including corporate clients, university dancers, hobbyists and medallists.

Besides teaching and coaching ballroom, Latin American and Argentine tango dancing, Kele is a certified Alexander Technique teacher, having been certified by the incomparable Walter and Dilys Carrington at their Constructive Teaching Centre in London.

Kele was born and raised in New York City, and attended Northwestern University (BSc) and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). She is a certified teacher of chi gong, the Alexander Technique and, as a professional ballroom, latin and Argentine tango teacher, holds numerous qualifications from both the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD).

Kele has a passion for helping people find their joy, connect their mind and body, free their spirit, achieve to the best of their capability, and have fun doing it.
